WHAT is the ART of MEDICINAL COMFORT FOOD?

Transforming traditional comfort food - like pasta, pizza, and pastries - into a sublime and delicious delivery system for medicinal herbs. Even the really really bitter, gross tasting, but damn good for you herbs.

Do I Need Fancy Equipment?

No! Fancy tools can be fun and efficient, but basic kitchen tools like pots and pans, cutting boards, butter knives, forks, and your own hands are all you need to make pasta.

Is it HARD to MAKE PASTA FROM SCRATCH?

No! At least, not the way I teach it. I have ADHD and am Italian American, which means I can follow instructions about as well as a wombat. I have pushed and pulled the limits of pasta making in all sorts of ways and have discovered the simplest, most fun, most full proof ways to make pasta.

And then my son
really pushed the limits, especially when he was rolling out pasta with his chubby, impatient toddler hands.

Can I Make MEDICAL MARINARA?

Sauce is an integral part of a pasta dish. While the invention of pasta is thousands of years old and certainly a group effort with Arabic, Chinese, Roman, Etruscan, Jewish, and Greek influences, one of the major contributions of the Italians to this beautiful food was sauce.

Sauce is also a divine medium for herbs, increasing the medicinal and nutritional potency of your dish.

Hi! I'm Melissa

I am Melissa Laurita Kohl - an Italian American mama, herbalist, artist, writer, homesteader, and masciara (Lucanian folk magic practitioner) who has spent 24 years in deep study and relationship with plants as a gardener, permaculturist, forager, home cook, healer, and teacher.

Once I unlocked the secret of balancing the flavor of medicinal herbs with flour, I started to make pasta that was as delicious as it was medicinal and my friends, family, and students gobbled it up.

Food is the perfect medium for inviting the medicinal power of herbs and spices into your body. The inherent sweetness of flour can make even the most bitter herbs palatable, allowing you to sneak a lot of herbal medicine into your pasta dough. You don’t have to be Italian to have early and fond memories of pasta and tapping into your hard wired love of noodles is the best way to increase the diversity of plants in your diet. Make herbal pasta for the joy of it, the divine taste of it, and reap the health rewards as a delicious side effect.
